Or read our to learn how to use this site. My Mac Book Pro has the proverbial 'spinning wheel' problem and seems to have picked up a virus, possibly through iTunes. When I use the disk repair it shows that there's a problem in iTunes but the disk repair cannot fix the problem. This has become a real problem and I'm not comfortable with loading an anti virus program. Short of visiting an Apple store for help (closest is 2 hours away) I'm wondering if there's anything at all that I can do to get my Mac well again. It seems to be pretty sick right now and I need it back ASAP. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I rand Disk Utility over the drive and the operation finished with the message: Updating boot support partitions for the volume as required Its a FAT32 partition, it already existed, and it was not bootable so its not clear to me what required updating.

Thanks in advance •. What makes you think you have a virus? I've yet to see, but one virus on a mac in years. In most cases when someone has malware or scare ware.

Did you run a disk repair from recovery mode? (hold cmd+R, while booting up) Did it say it 'could not repair disk backup your files' or was it greyed out? Doing a disk repair may help with system slowness or App Hangs 'spinning wheel', but it won't touch malware. Try booting to safe mode first hold down shift key while booting until you see the apple logo with grey screen. Safe Mode is slower, but see if the issue continues there.

Can you provide more info? RAM, HD space, OS X. This can be found by clicking the apple Icon and choosing about this mac from the menu. Staygold512 thanks for your reply.

I don't know that I have a virus--just guessing really. I was able to run the repair disk in recovery as you suggested. It said: • 'The volume Macintosh HD appears to be ok'. • Volume repair complete • Updating boot support partitions for the volume as required Then I did a 'Permissions Verify' and it came back with a ton of stuff in there and took quite a while to complete that. Then I did 'Repair Disk Permissions' twice. Question: If I verify disk permissions and then do a repair how do you know if it fixed everything it found during the verification? Now, if I shut down and restart in safe mode as you suggest and the issue continues what next?

Dvdrip for mac free. License owners of 4.3 who donated more than 365 days ago can upgrate for $10.

Here's what I got on the verification on the disk: The one at the top of the list says SUID file 'System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAgent' has been modified and will not be repaired On repair permissions there's one for System Library, one for Safari and a boat load for the iTunes app - all say that they should be drwxr-xr-x; they are rwxr-xr-x's What's the next move please? By the way, info you requested: OS X Lion 10.7.5 Memory 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 Hard Drive is 320 GB Edited by crazydiamond23, 25 October 2014 - 09:43 PM. You might check to see how much free HD space you have. That can be done by checking available space in disk utility when selecting the MacHD. I would recommend 10-15GB minimum.

You can also check activity monitor, Finder > Apps > Utilities. If you are still experiencing issues in Safe Mode, then it might be a hardware issue. You can run a on board Apple Hardware Test, but the diagnostic tools at a Apple Store are usually better. I'm currently having similar issue, and will probably erase & reinstall. While I really like the Mac world I have had my fair share of problems with Macs. This computer had the hard drive replaced in 2010 while in Paris and it was done at the Apple store at the Louvre.

Prior to that it worked fine and was a great buy. I have since purchased and use a Mac Book Air and bought that machine because I was told a flash drive was more reliable than the traditional hard drive.

Boot

The flash drive crashed as well and had to be replaced. It's worked fine with no problems since replacing the flash drive. So, back to the Mac Book Pro.

If I don't have to worry about the permissions messages I'm back to square one and the problem still exists so where to now? The Apple store, where the closest one to me is a 2 hour drive. I'm willing to make the trip if that's what it's going to take but in setting up the appointment I'll need to give them some information about what the problem is. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated and thanks to everyone who has offered suggestions. I appreciate it •. Just an update and more to come after tomorrow.. Best pdf software for mac. I spent HOURS and I do mean HOURS on the phone with Apple support today and as it turns out, this was a HUGE problem that really gave them fits.
